Ray Kagels Memorial Scholarship Awarded to URI’s Samantha Cudnik and Esther Golyak
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: January 30th, 2025
Narragansett 2100, Inc., a non-profit organization of landlords with rental property in Narragansett and Narragansett property managers, awards an annual $1,000 scholarship to a URI student who resides in Narragansett.
“This scholarship is to honor Ray Kagels, the founder and past president of Narragansett 2100, Inc. Ray loved the town of Narragansett and devoted much of his time volunteering in Narragansett. This annual scholarship is awarded to a URI student residing in Narragansett who exhibits a strong level of community service. Because there were so many exceptional candidates of the 40 applicants, we decided to award a $1,000 scholarship to two URI students, Samantha Cudnik and Esther Golyak, who represent the many URI students who give back to their community.” Said George Nonis, president of Narragansett 2100, Inc.
Samantha, a Communicative Disorders senior with a 3.78 GPA, volunteered at Per Buddy, Best Buddies, RI Special Olympics/Unified Sports, URI Habitat for Humanity, URI Public Health Club, Senior Health, Wellness and Fall Risk Program among other programs.
Esther, a Public Relations and Textile Merchandise and Design Junior with a 3.5 GPA, established her own non profit to assist Ukranian refugees, volunteered at Arlekin Players, Beat the Odds, URI Hillel Center and Narragansett Save the Bay.
The scholarship awards were presented to Samantha and Esther by George Nonis, Narragansett 2100, Inc. president and Joyce Kagels, wife of the late Ray Kagels at a luncheon sponsored by the Coast Guard House.
